It may be that all of us carry in our souls
a memory of Eden, the glorious garden where we came to know our Creator.
That could account for the attraction Thomas has long felt for gardens—resplendent
in riotous colors and tranquil in their shadowy private spaces. Nanette
and him take advantage of the romance of gardens to enrich our love. They
have sought out their sheltered nooks to meet and talk and dream and remember.

The heart has its special places: quiet retreats, fragrant with the
sweet perfume of flowers, bathed in the romantic light of sunset, soothed
by the music of a laughing brook and droning bees. Places made possible
by the precious gift of love.

Rock of Salvation will be the last creation in Thomas'
Seaside Memories series. Though watching the "sun set" over this seven-year
series of works is nostalgic and slightly bittersweet, he looks forward
to the "sun rise" of a new coastal series in the near future.

In the first of a trio of coordinated paintings in honor of Thomas'
beautiful baby, Winsor, they entered through the floral opulence of Rose
Gate. Two ancient stone columns guard the entrance; a weathered copper
plaque bears the crest of the manor, an interlocking "W & M."

How true it is that we often sail to distant shores seeking that which
lies hidden in our own heart, our own home. The Sea of Tranquility
is not a place; it is all places, for it is buried deep within all people.

Thomas is intrigued by lighthouses.
Erected in locations of great peril, they often stand in setting of remarkable
beauty and drama as well. Where nature is most powerful, it can also
be most majestic.
