At top left, an owl in a tree surveys the scene about to unfold. The woman trying to extricate her horse from its box isn’t
paying attention, and so will miss what’s about to happen. The snobbish rider atop her mount, proudly clutching her winners’
trophy (the horse just as snobbishly sports a rosette), is about to land unceremoniously into the water jump area. Maybe the number
13 isn’t such good luck after all. Certainly the geese aren’t waiting around for the splash and are already fleeing. Worse, her
proud dog is following and is himself about to land on top of an unsuspecting goose. Unfortunately, a press photographer is about
to catch the whole moment on film. Meanwhile, to the right, a squirrel shields his eyes in dismay as he readies for the splash. Two
horses, one a “Thelwell” style Yorkshire pony, are nuzzling up to each other. Note the shark’s fin in the water!
