Peter loves to watch TV wildlife documentaries, and in this piece, he
turns the table by giving the zebra the
chance to dominate its predator. Here the zebra sits firmly upon a
lioness that has Swiss Army knife claws,
a bandage from a previous wound, and a pierced tongue. Under the front
leg of the zebra, the mouse makes
a full appearance, baring paws, stomach, bottom and tail as he mirrors
the zebra’s courage. Around the base
of the lid is the Latin inscription, “Mites possidebunt terram” meaning
“The meek shall inherit the earth.” There
is no inner carving except for HBC logo. Hallmarks include ©,
heart, HBC logo, ed.#, and Pc.
